Everything journalists, reviewers, booksellers and event organisers need to cover Sue Ruffle and her debut middle grade graphic novel from Papercutz, publishing 4 March 2026.
Sue Ruffle is a debut middle grade graphic novel author whose magical adventure publishes 30 June 2026 with Papercutz. Raised in the Belgian Congo on a steady diet of Tintin, Asterix and The Smurfs, she now writes from Australia after careers in international advertising, kids’ promotions and animation.
Long Bio (approx. 200 words)
Sue Ruffle grew up in the heart of the Belgian Congo (now the DRC), where jungle adventures and a stack of beloved European comics – Tintin, Spirou, Asterix and The Smurfs – lit the spark for a lifetime of storytelling. She didn’t just read those comics; she lived inside them, daydreaming her way into fearless heroes, mischievous villains, and far-off magical worlds.
Years later, with a houseful of her own children, those daydreams started whispering back. Brave little heroes and gloriously nasty baddies began appearing in her notebooks, alongside epic quests, mysterious relics and a brand-new universe of small beings.
Before turning to graphic novels full-time, Sue spent decades telling stories for a living – first in international advertising, then running her own promotions company focused on kids and teens, then four years in animation after moving to Australia in 2006, followed by co-founding the boutique creative agency The Gaswerx. She has since stepped away from agency life to focus solely on her writing.
Her debut middle grade graphic novel, an as-yet-unrevealed magical adventure, publishes 30 June 2026 with Papercutz under the editorial direction of Adam Wallenta.

“Stories are like portals... once you open the first page, anything is possible.” — Sue Ruffle
About the Book
Sue’s debut graphic novel introduces a group of small beings – goodies and baddies alike – whose happy and simple lives are turned upside-down by the strange and unexpected arrival of a wayward falling star. What follows is a magical adventure into a brand-new world, perfect for curious 8–12 year olds (and any grown-up who still believes in epic quests).
Out of respect for her publisher Papercutz and editor Adam Wallenta, Sue is keeping the characters and finished interior art under wraps until the official reveal. Full jacket copy and the final cover image will be added here at launch on 30 June 2026.
